What happens to what you send me.

Written in plain language, and describing what this site actually does rather than what a policy generator assumed it might.

The short version

If you fill in the contact form, I keep what you typed so I can answer you. That is the whole of it.

Reading this site collects nothing. There are no analytics, no advertising, no tracking of any kind, and no cookies are set for ordinary visitors. Nothing on any page is loaded from another company’s servers, so nobody else learns that you were here either.

I am one person rather than a company with a compliance department, and this page is short because there genuinely is not much to tell you.

What the contact form records

When you send the form, these are stored on this website and emailed to me:

  • Your name, if you gave one. That field is optional.
  • Your email address, so I can reply.
  • Your message, as you wrote it.
  • The page you sent it from, and the date and time.
  • A one-way hash of your IP address, which is worth explaining.

Your IP address itself is not stored. What is stored is a keyed cryptographic hash of it, which lets the site notice that ten submissions in a minute came from the same place without ever keeping the address. The key lives on the server, the hash cannot be turned back into an address without it, and it is used for nothing except stopping spam.

The form does not ask you to tick a box agreeing to anything, because there is nothing to agree to. Sending it does not add you to a mailing list, for the straightforward reason that I do not have one.

What this site does not do

Most of a privacy policy is an inventory of things being collected. Here it is easier to list what is absent, and I would rather state it plainly than leave you to assume.

  • No analytics. I do not know how many people read any page, or which ones.
  • No cookies for visitors. Not for consent, not for preferences, not for anything — which is also why there is no banner asking your permission for something that is not happening.
  • No third-party anything. No advertising networks, no social media pixels, no fonts or scripts fetched from other companies, no embedded video, no chat widget.
  • No profiling and no automated decisions. Your enquiry is read by a person.
  • Nothing is sold, rented or shared. Not to anyone, for any amount.

This is not a position adopted for the sake of a page. It is what happens when nobody installs the things that do it.

Cookies, specifically

Reading this site sets none. Not one, not even a strictly necessary one, and that has been checked rather than assumed.

Pages are served through a cache so they arrive quickly. Caching here happens on the server and identifies nobody — it does not put anything in your browser and does not need to know who you are. Sending the contact form does not set a cookie either.

The only cookies this site is capable of setting belong to WordPress itself and appear when somebody signs in to administer it. That is me. A reader is never offered a login and therefore never gets one.

Which is why you were not shown a banner on your way in. There was nothing to ask you about, and a consent notice covering cookies that do not exist is theatre.

Who else necessarily sees it

Two companies are unavoidably involved in a website existing and an email arriving, and you are entitled to know which.

Hostinger hosts this site, so your submission sits on their server and appears in ordinary web server logs. Proton carries the notification email to me. Both are handling it on my behalf, and neither has any business using it for their own purposes.

Beyond those two, nobody. There is no customer database somewhere else, no third-party form service, and no marketing platform.

How long I keep it, and how to have it deleted

Enquiries are kept while there is a reason to have them — a conversation in progress, a piece of work, a record of what was agreed. They are not kept as an asset, because they are not one.

Ask me to delete what you sent and I will delete it, and tell you when it is done. You can also ask for a copy of it, or ask me to correct something. There is no form and no process. Email info@datastream.consulting or call (719) 900-1275.

Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to some of that. You have it here regardless of where you live, which seemed simpler than working out who qualifies.

If this changes

If I ever add something that collects more than this — analytics, a booking system, a newsletter — this page gets updated before it goes live rather than afterwards, and the date below changes with it.

Questions about any of it are welcome, including awkward ones. Being asked how something works is not an inconvenience. It is most of what I do for a living.
